Dave’s tree people come from a space where engineering and imagination meet. The piece of wood finds Dave and then he looks at it until he sees a face. He turns to his mad genius stockpiles of knick nads and do dads and he makes it work. The spirit of play lives in his work and the world of the big machine is only present within the organic object.

Big Wave Dave has been making art his whole life with an early emphasis on machines, a longtime owner/operator of the Original Portland Motorcycle and a tinkering genius. Artist Dave Hillis is deeply bothered by the way Americans throw valuable things away. He is constantly working to find purpose for materials. This piece is a great example. As a lifelong mechanic, Dave has accumulated and broken a number of tire irons. These tire irons were cut and assembled on a trex base to create a extremely minimalist survival presentation. This would serve well for candlelit dinners in your fallout bunker or as part industrial, mad max, steam punk aesthetics. I probably will not ship the wax candles for fear that they will melt and make a mess, but send me a message if you want them shipped too (I'll put em in a plastic bag).
